More now than ever, many firms look for employees with degrees, or with at least a few years of college. Many companies mistakenly turn away older applications with high school diplomas, in favor of people with college backgrounds.

Studies show that women returning to the workforce after raising families must settle for any job they can get, instead of jobs they could excel at, if given the chance. If employers would only realize that parenting is the hardest job in the world, they would want them working for them. What they discover, sometimes too late, is that a degree does not make up for hard work and a good sense of work ethics.

CEO’s of large and small businesses alike, complain about unproductive employees. What employers fail to realize is that while people with a college education may have the knowledge to complete their job responsibilities, older people realize what it means to be a reliable, dependable employee. It is not something college professors can teach them.

This is not a cut and dry issue, but employers seem to agree on one thing. The advanced technological world of instant gratification we live in, give people that grew up with these advances, the illusion that everything comes easy, as easy as the click of a mouse.

People in prior decades without the advantages of the world at their fingertips, and hoards of programs to help them build a business, relied on their wits, common sense, and ability to work hard, to obtain the goal of being a successful businessperson, or a great employee.

Many employers find some of their employees refuse to do anything beyond what their job description included. In sharp contrast are the women who entered the workforce while their husbands went off to war. It was a combined effort, with everyone working as a team, to get the work done.
